At approximately 3:30 PM, the Magee Police Department responded to a call for service at the local Walmart regarding a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a gentleman, while removing a jack from his vehicle, experienced a mishap causing the vehicle to roll backward. This unfortunate event resulted in the vehicle running over and crushing his leg before colliding with another parked vehicle.
The victim sustained severe injuries, leading to profuse bleeding. Several citizens immediately rushed to his aid, and notably, an unidentified hero applied a makeshift tourniquet to the injured leg. This decisive action was crucial in controlling the bleeding and stabilizing the victim until officers and the Magee Fire Department arrived on the scene to take over.
It’s important to note that a person can bleed out in less than 3 minutes from a severe wound. Therefore, knowing how to properly apply a tourniquet is vital, as it can save lives in emergency situations.
The victim was subsequently transported to the hospital via ambulance, and his family has since been notified. The Magee Police Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the citizens who assisted during this critical incident, especially the individual who applied the tourniquet. Your prompt and courageous actions exemplify the community spirit and undoubtedly made a significant difference in the outcome of this emergency.
UPDATE:
We would like to recognize Mrs. Ashley Randall Davidson for applying the tourniquet. On behalf of the Magee Police Department, thank you for your quick actions, Mrs. Davidson!
