To the citizens of Magee,

I want to commend our finest officers for their outstanding work today. On October 4, 2024, Magee dispatch received a call from the Excel Police Department in Alabama, requesting assistance in locating a missing 16-year old juvenile, reported missing by her parents yesterday at 7 p.m. and possibly in our area. One of our vigilant officers swiftly spotted the suspect’s vehicle in a shopping center near AutoZone and Hibbett Sports.

Upon noticing the vehicle was empty, officers briefly left the scene. However, our Sergeant of Investigations continued surveillance and observed the missing juvenile exiting Hibbett Sports with a white male. Officers in the area quickly converged, safely recovering the juvenile and identifying the 22-year-old male, Thomas Reed Shea, who was reported to have no relation to the juvenile.

Although the Magee Police Department has no charges against Shea at this time due to the alleged crime occurring out of state. Shea will be held at Magee City Jail on a hold for the Excel Police Department.

It is important to remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

As the chief of your police department, I want to personally thank our officers for their quick and diligent work in ensuring the safety of this young teen.

This is what they do each and every single day.

Chief Denis J. Borges
