Chief Chris Jones reporting:
On August 6, 2021, Officers with the Magee Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle that was stolen out of Georgia. The suspect a Obinze Chidozie Ekeogu lead Officers on a pursuit into the southern potion of the county, where he would eventually bail from the vehicle and flee on foot into a wooded area. Officers with the Magee Police Department, Simpson County Sheriff’s Department, and Rankin County Sheriff’s Department set up in the surrounding area.
After several hours, the suspect would eventually surrender to Officers. I would like to think Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and Rankin County Sheriff’s Department for all of their help. Obinze Edeogu is booked into Magee Police Department and is awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
(Sue note: Earlier reports were published to the public saying the escapee was a murder suspect. This was false information. The reports concerned two different individuals.)
