The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Wednesday, March 16, 2022, for their regular schedule meeting.

Dr. Toriano Holloway,  Simpson County School Superintendent, met before the board reminding them of the upcoming school bond vote on March 29, 2022.  Dr. Holloway asked the board if they had any questions he could answer. Donny Welch asked if the school board intended to raise taxes even  if the bond passes.  Dr. Holloway stated the bond passage would take care of any monies needed.

EMC John Killpatrick presented his monthly report. A total of 1173 911 calls were received for the month of February.. 6 structure fires were reported in the county.

Board attorney Danny Welch is investigating if the county could assist  Simpson County Lake (Legion Lake) for road purposes. Mr. Welch is perusing  some Attorney General opinions and will get back with the board.

Chancery Clerk Tommy Joe Harvey asked the board for an order approving change in polling place for Magee (4) North Voting precinct. The request was granted.

The solid waste account status and tag renewal status found a total of 1730 verifiable names and address.  A total of 497 names and accounts were flagged as delinquent for solid waste.

The county is working on needed repairs at all voting precincts. Each place is receiving new paint.

The board  approved the hiring of Effie D Ramsey as a full-time employee for the Justice Court Office effective Match 9, 2022.

A letter of understand between MEA Drug Testing and Simpson County Board of Supervisors was approved. An Annual fee of $275.00 is required plus the cost per test will be $61.00. All drug test will be performed at Simpson General Hospital.

The burial of a dead donkey was approved for Byron Switzer of 126 Switzer Drive in Mendenhall.

The board will receive and open bids on April 5, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. for chemicals for brush spraying.

The following travel was approved:

Constable Randall Coleman to attend MCA Board Meeting to be held on April 29, 2022 in Gulfport.

Constable Randall Coleman and Constable Chris Jones to attend the 2022 Convention and Training Seminar to be held June 6-10, 2022 in Gulfport.  Registration included 2022-2023 annual dues.

  • Monday, May 2, 2022
  • Monday, May 16, 2022

Holidays: 

  • Good Friday – Friday, April 15, 2022
  • Memorial Day – May 30, 2022
