Concerned citizens approached the Simpson County Supervisors board concerning the condition of  J. W. Williams Road. Reverend Cranford Wheeler was the spokesperson for the group.  The board advised a plan was in place for road improvements. The road is in a condition that is not feasible for the county to resurface. The road will be milled down and require sitting for several months before rock and tar can be laid to properly correct the surface issues.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP Projects as of November 30, 2021.

  • SAP-64(16)M – Surface Maintenance on Cato Road is at 90% completed with 80% Elapse time. All major items of construction are complete. Held final inspection. Contractor has been given punch list.
  • SAP-64(19)S – Surface Maintenance on Mt. Zion to Shivers Road and St. Johns Road is at 90% completed with 80% Elapse time. Held final inspection. Contractor has been given punch list.
  • LSBP-64(23) – Bridge replacement on Sofa Road is 75% Completed with 70% Elapse time. Contractor has completed box bridge. Working an approaches.
  • SAP-64(64) – Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton Road is Advertising. open bids Monday, January 3, 2022 @ 9:00 a.m.
  • LSBP-64(24) – (Bridge Replacement) Shorter Road Working on P.S. & E.. Assembly. Have mailed out utility agreement. Awaiting completion of environmental review.
  • SAP-64(65) – (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – P.S. & E. Inspection was conducted on September 21, 2021. Office Review plans were mailed to State Aid on September 27, 2021. Have started environment review. MDAH is requiring Cultural Survey.

The board approved a hunting lease from the Simpson County School board.

The Supervisors reappointed Steven Ammann to the Co-Lin Board of Trustees as Member at Large.

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following personnel Devon Thurman as a new hire sheriff’s deputy part time certified. In other Sheriff’s business, the board approved paying November 2021 Summit Food Service invoices in the amount of $21,155.77. The board approved three 2022 Dodge Durango Pursuit base $30,699 each plus Police Barlight package $6,325 each for  a total of $37,024.

The board approved the payment of loss cost fee of $2,500 each to Constables Randall Coleman and Christopher Jones.

The board is applying for a new MDEQ Local Solid Waste Assistant Grant in the amount of $24,289.37.

Membership in the Mississippi Association of County Agricultural Agents in the amount of $100 for Amanda Blakeney was approved.

Board approved the Westville Road bridge repair $49,900 and the cemetery Road bridge repair $17,000 with purchase order issued to Grant Blakeney for emergency bridge repairs.

The board approved the purchase of a 58-foot loader belt for the Leeboy Force Feed Loader from Mid South Equipment for $6,100.

The board approved the new hire for the Solid Waste Department of Michael Morris effective 12-1-21.

  • Monday, January 3, 2021

Holidays: 

  • Christmas Holiday – Thursday and Friday, December 23 & 24, 2021.
  • New Year’s Holiday – Friday, December 31, 2021.
  • MLK/RE Lee Holiday – Monday, January 17, 2021.
