The Simpson County Supervisors honored two graduates with scholarships. Zy’Keria Cole and Jaylen Hicks are the scholarship recipients.
Bids and proof of publication for the Simpson County Jail – Trustee Expansion were opened. Two bids were received. S & L Commercial Ink at a quote of $1,400,000 and Sullivan Enterprise Inc. with a quote of $1,375,000. The bids were taken under advisement.
Road Manger, Ben Warren, requested approval for A MDOT Driveway application for Mickey Welch. The approval was given for the burial of a dead horse for James Thompson.
John Kilpatrick presented the following EMC report.
- A total of E-911 calls for 4/15/-5/15 were 1309
- 6 structure fires
- EMS-273 911 calls with an average 15:49 response time.
Kilpatrick reported the drone was used to look for an individual lost on the Strong River.
Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following report and request.
- Chantell Meadows dispatch part time certified to full time.
- Olivia Gilmore new hire part-time non-certified for dispatch.
- Permission for Chris Wallace Sheriff’s Investigator to attend All About Skimmers Online Class June 1, 2022 at a cost of $199.00.
- Permission to apply for JAG, MLCOA and Bullet Proof Vest Grants.
Chancery Clerk Tommy Joe Harvey announced his decision to retire effective May 31, 2022. The board approved to replace Mr. Harvey with Gina Sullivan until a special election can be held. James Anderson will replace Harvey at the rubbish facility. Several spoke on Mr. Harvey’s behalf and how it has been a pleasure working and serving with him.
County Administrator Rhuel Dickerson reported approval for estimate from Grant Blakeney, LLC for the emergency repairs to Old River Road Bridge. Total $137,200 plus rip rap cost.
Approval for the ESRI ArcGis software for $3,292.
Approve refund of $100 E911 Address fee to Linda Jackson.
Approve Rhuel Dickerson and Regina Evans as audit representatives for the FY 2021 Audit.
Consider the request of the Simpson County Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc. requesting the space in the Miller Building currently occupied by the parle officer for Historical Museum space an moving the parole officer to the front office room formerly occupied by the WIN Job Center.
The board approved the Mississippi Justice Court Association membership dues renewal of $300 total for Justice Court Clerk Joyce Hicks and 3 deputies.
The following travel was approved.
- Mitchell Chatman, District 1 Supervisor to attend the Mississippi Connected Community Conference on May 18, 2022 in Stoneville, Ms.
- Danny Welch, Board Attorney, for the Miss Association of County Board Attorneys CLE and the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Conference in Biloxi, MS on June 2022.
- Witt Fortenberry, Circuit Clerk, to attend the Circuit Clerk’s association Annual Educational Conference July 19-22, 2022 in Biloxi, Ms.
- Ratify the approval for the sheriff who attended training May 17, 2022 to Fredricksburg, Virginia sponsored by the FBI.
