At the school board meeting Thursday night (video available on website), a discussion was held concerning problems with the dirt where the new elementary school is to be built. From what I could tell today, lots of dirt is moving to fill in the “already” dug out places in the land. Once the dirt is in place, a test will be preformed to see if indeed the land can support a school building….Also, there was talk about the city of Magee requiring the school be built to city code. Now, that code was not just put in place…why wasn’t the code studied from day 1. A meeting was held with city and schools officials and it looks like everything is going to work. Our schools will be built according to code…making them storm ready. Personally, I don’t think we should skip on codes that are in place to protect our children. Apparently, the cost to implement the code is not as high as the $300,00 as predicted by school personal. We’ve all got to hang together as we work through this problems. No one knew their were springs under ground…our school folks followed directions and what they were told…just wasn’t the way they thought once the digging started. We need to continue to pray for these groups as they seek answers for a new Magee Elementary school.
The city of Magee got lucky this weekend! Approximately 40 teams came to play at the Magee Sportsplex due to a rain out for a major tournament in Jackson. Our rec guys had to scramble…but they pulled it off…..and the business of Magee say thank you! From gas stations to restaurants the teams “brought in” the money…and spent it in Magee!
Congratulations again to our Bible Drillers in this area…proud of you!
