Students were recognized during the regular schedule Simpson County School Board Meeting Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Mendenhall High School Senior Lillion Hamil received the Outstanding Saha MS-JAS Award at the 2023 Mississippi Academy of Sciences Annual Convention. Hamil was the only high school student to present at the convention. Lillion received this prestigious award for her involvement in research on Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

Next, Kami Patrick was recognized. Kami is an eight-grade student from Simpson Central School.  Kammi was the first-place winner of the Simpson County School District Spelling Bee. Kami represented the district at the State Spelling Bee at the Mississippi State University for Women in March. Kami made it to the second round in the state competition.

Lastly the Simpson County Technical Center was recognized for their students achievements.

Competing in the 2023 Mississippi SkillsUSA State Championship, the following CTE students in metal fabrication was honored:

  • Jody Stevens, who won 1st place in Sheet Metal
  • Eli Peacock, who won 1st place in CNC Milling Specialist.
  • Coby Wilmut who won 2nd place in CNC Turning Specialist.

As first place winners Jody and Eli will advance to the National SkillsUSA Competition in Atlanta this summer.

  • Hunter Booth

  • Allison Shows
  • David Shows

Third, Diesel Technology student Alex Anderson won 1st place in Motorcycle Service Technology. He will also advance to the national competition this summer. (not present)

Also, placing in the SKillsUSA State Championship were Law and Public Safety students

Finally, the healthcare and clinical sciences students who competed in the 2023 Health Occupations Students of American State Leadership Conference are

  • Jackaline Sills – who won 2nd place in HOSA Bowl
