Students at SCTC Enjoy Tour of U.S. Army Health Simulator
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, students at Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) were disassembling a skeleton in virtual reality, listening to a talking mannequin and learning about medical careers offered by the U.S. Army.
These activities were all part of a tour of the U.S. Army’s medical simulation semitrailer. The simulator included interactive stations students could learn about careers in the armed forces. The state-of-the-art mannequin was the highlight of the exhibit, which is used in Army medical simulation centers throughout the country. Sgt. 1st Class Garlando Johnson admitted that “the simulation dummy creeps students out because it talks and moves.”
Inside the simulator are portable oxygen generators, electro-current bandages and large displays of prosthetics and Army-led research about traumatic brain injuries. The interactive displays are complemented by video testimonials regarding opportunities and experiences available to medical professionals in the Army.
Johnson gave students the ability to see what else the Army has to offer for those that plan to choose a career in the health field.
