Monday was a day filled with storms. Tornados, hail, wind, and rain struck Central Mississippi beginning around noon. A tornado was confirmed over Edwards around 12:10 PM.
The sirens in Magee began sounding late afternoon with a continuous downpour of rain and hail. Many people in the area were without power.
The Mize area in Smith county was the hardest hit in surrounding counties. Several homes as well as farms were destroyed. Calvary Church in the Sharon Saratoga area received roof damage. A trailer in the same area was completely destroyed. Debris littered the area from chicken houses, roofs, and downed trees. Power lines were downed and 320 in the Smith county area remained without power. 100 homes in the Mize area were damaged and 6 chicken houses.
The Reggie Blackwell home and farm were completely destroyed in the Mize area.
Joel and Wendy Cain’s home in the Mize area was destroyed.
A very sharp decrease in temperatures came behind the front, leaving us in the 30s overnight with only the 40s expected on Tuesday. Wednesday & Thursday bring even colder mornings in the 20s.
