Storms of Life

We are reminded daily that life is not fair. As we hear of turmoil in our streets, cancer, tragic deaths, storms and floods, I look for encouragement and hope in God’s word.   Pastor Rick Warren reminds us that our problems, difficulties, and hurts will make us better or they will make us bitter. We will either grow up or give up. We will either become who God wants us to be or our hearts will become hardened like the Pharaoh in Egypt. We must decide how we are going to respond to the tough times in our life.

When life gets hard, some people start drifting through life. They don’t have any purpose or ambition. They are coasting through life. Coasting is great when we are going downhill!! The problems start when we reach the bottom of the hill. Life is not an easy downhill coast. It is a struggle to climb those hills.

Role models can be positive or negative.

Don’t put a lot of concern into what others think of you.

When we are in the midst of a storm and the stress gets unbearable, we tend to start abandoning values and relationships that we valued during the good times. If we are not grounded in strong principles and strong faith, we tend to walk out or walk away from all that we once held dear!!  God can change situations and personalities and He can change us. But he won’t if we’re always quitting or walking away! It is never God’s will that we run from difficult situations. God wants us to learn, to grow, and to develop. Stay the course!

One of my favorite songs is “Sheltered in the Arms of God”.   We sang that song at our church when Hurricane Katrina was approaching the coast. The writer of this song experienced many storms in his life, but he never forgot that in the midst of a storm, God is in control. He has not left us. We may not feel as close to Him as we once did, but if we feel far from God, guess who moved?
