A routine Thursday morning turned into a life-saving mission for Magee Police Officers Michael Allan and Vance Hamilton. Around 8:00 a.m. on August 14, 2025, the Magee Police Department received a call from a Mississippi Highway Patrolman who had discovered an individual lying in the Walmart parking lot, covered in blood.
When Allan and Hamilton arrived on the scene, they found the man bleeding heavily from a wrist injury. As the officers attempted to provide aid, the individual began resisting and tried to prevent them from stopping the bleeding. Despite the struggle, the officers managed to apply a tourniquet, stopping the blood loss, and removed a large knife from the scene.
The man was transported immediately by Covington County Ambulance Service to a hospital. Thanks to the quick actions of the Highway Patrolman and the responding officers, his life was saved.
The Magee Police Department issued a statement urging hope for those in crisis: “No matter what you are going through, remember: everything passes. No failure is final, and life always offers second chances—except for death. Choose to stay, because tomorrow could be the day everything changes.”
Both Allan and Hamilton are well-known in the community for their dedication and compassion. “These guys love Magee and love others,” the department said. “Thank you for truly making a difference today.”
Information on Trooper Brown! Darius is a former member of the Magee Police Department! Darius actually got there first.
On 08-14-2025 at approximately 8:00 am Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Darious Brown had just pulled into the Walmart parking lot when he discovered an individual lying on the ground, bleeding heavily from the wrist. Trooper Brown contacted Magee Dispatch and notified them. Officers Michael Allan and Vance Hamilton arrived on scene within one minute of the call.
While officers were trying to render aid to the individual, he resisted not wanting officers to stop the bleed. Trooper Brown and Officer Hamilton held the individual still while Officer Allan applied a tourniquet and wrapped the wrist to stop the bleeding. The human body can bleed out in as little as two minutes, had Trooper Brown not made that call, and had Officer Allan not acted so quickly, the individual would likely not be here today.
It was truly a miracle that Trooper Brown happened to be there at that exact time, and that our officers responded so rapidly. We believe the injuries sustained happened at the moment Trooper Brown happened to enter the parking lot.
I also want to personally thank UMMC’s “First Hand Program,” which travels across the state providing free training and tourniquets to officers who complete their course. Their program is another critical reason that young man is still with us today.
