The board of aldermen both collectively and individually; Sue Honea, Alderman-at-large, Matthew Hickman, Alderman Ward One, Mark Grubbs, Alderman Ward Two, Lane Steele, Alderman Ward three and Mayor Pro Tem and Patrick Brown, Alderman Ward Four have agreed based on current negative publicity to release the following:

“We do not condone domestic violence in any shape form or fashion in any circumstances whether physical, verbal, emotional or of a sexual nature.  There are ways to address  issues without domestic violence of any sort.  Furthermore, we would hope that any of these issues could be worked out either with professional help and or counseling.  In worse-case scenario, it would be addressed in court.  This statement is not meant to pass judgement on any of the parties involved in our mayor’s current situation.

The media is no place to play out this situation and we would hope there are many more important issues that face our city as well as our future.

I know there has to be a starting point in such things and then be handled through the proper channels, BUT these are not newlyweds and he is not a newly elected public figure. My point is that this is not likely the first time this has happened. It’s just the first time she reported it! Being a public figure and an example for young people, what was he thinking? Did he forget the time she accompanied him to work to do things he could not do, just to help him get back to work? You’re going to slap that person? I’m sure this will be adjudicated objectively. Very sad!
