State Treasurer Lynn Fitch Hosts Girl Scouts Career Day

Jackson, MS. State Treasurer Lynn Fitch is proud to host today Jackson-area Cadette Girl Scouts for the Girl Scouts and Office of the State Treasurer Career Day. The scouts are spending their day touring the Treasurer’s Office and the State Capitol, completing activities geared towards improving their personal finance skills and learning about the daily responsibilities of the Treasurer’s Office.

“I am thrilled to spend the day with these young ladies,” noted Treasurer Fitch. “As a former cookie mom, I’ve seen firsthand the impact Girl Scouts makes in the community and in each one of the scouts’ lives. I am happy to help the scouts earn their financial literacy patch and prepare them to be better stewards and future leaders of Mississippi.”

“We are excited to be able to continue to offer this event in partnership with the Office of the State Treasurer,” stated Girl Scouts Program Director Matilda Stephens. “Thanks to Lynn Fitch and her staff for coordinating this wonderful learning opportunity for our girls.”

As part of the Career Day, the Cadettes will also meet prominent Mississippi women in financial fields from Mississippi and attend a lunch sponsored by BankPlus. Following their activities, the scouts will host a cookie reception for state agencies located in the Woolfolk building.

These Cadette Girl Scouts, including girls in grades 6-8, are part of Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi, Inc. (GSGMS), which serves over 9,000 girls and over 3,000 adults across 45 counties in central and southern Mississippi. Through activities in science and technology, business and economic literacy, and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl Scouts provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem. The organization instills courage, confidence, and character and encourages the scouts to make the world a better place.
