Jackson, MS. Today, State Treasurer Lynn Fitch is proud to host Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts for Greater Mississippi for the fifth consecutive Girl Scouts Career and Financial Literacy Day.  The Scouts, in grades 6 to 10, are spending their day touring the Treasurer’s Office, State Capitol, State Auditor’s Office, and State Insurance Department. Throughout the day, the Scouts will complete activities to improve their personal finance skills and learn about the daily responsibilities of our government financial agencies.

“Ensuring all Mississippi youth have strong financial literacy has always been a priority for me,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “And, I am pleased to work with the Girl Scouts to reinforce these critical life skills for these young women.  As a former cookie mom, I have seen how Girl Scouts builds self-confidence, positive self-awareness, and lifelong friendships.  It is a real pleasure to host this event each year and help these young women start building a foundation for their brightest futures.”

“We are excited to be able to continue to offer this event in partnership with the Office of the State Treasurer,” noted Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi Program Director Matilda Stephens.  “Many thanks to Lynn Fitch and her staff for coordinating this wonderful learning opportunity for our girls.” Following their activities, the Scouts will host a cookie reception for state agencies located in the Woolfolk building.

The Girl Scouts attending the event today are part of Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi, Inc. (GSGMS), which serves over 10,000 members across 45 counties in central and southern Mississippi. Through events and activities in science and technology, business and economic literacy, and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl Scouts not only promotes true friendship and creativity but also instills in them confidence and leadership skills that will last a lifetime. Through the organization, the girls learn how to handle responsibility, how to have courage, and what it means to be a person of good character.  Through Girl Scouts, girls learn life skills and lessons that help them pursue their goals and be the leaders of tomorrow.
