JACKSON, Miss. – State Auditor Shad White is ensuring local government leaders are provided with legal guidance for the expanded powers they will have during the cleanup process after Tropical Storm Gordon.
Auditor White said, “As local governments are preparing to clean up after Gordon, they should review this guidance on their expanded powers and the laws around spending public funds during emergencies. It’s just as important to make sure taxpayer dollars are not stolen and are spent properly during an emergency as it is any other time. For questions about spending and emergencies that this report doesn’t address, government officials can call our technical assistance line at 1-800-321-1275. Our office stands ready to help to ensure funds are spent efficiently and properly after the storm. I encourage everyone to stay conscious of the weather and road conditions as Gordon passes over.”
