SIMPSON COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT

Our public schools are the key element of the future in Simpson County. Currently, our schools are under-performing. We continue to loose students to neighboring counties and home schooling, or they become drop-outs while our taxes increase to support a shrinking student population. If results are to be improved in the future, we need to develop and implement an improvement written plan and hold people accountable. Merely hoping things will improve will result in “more of the same”. It is vital that we foster schools where students, teachers and staff can feel free to bring their concerns forward without fearing reprisal. Respectful but uniform discipline is critical to creating a learning environment.

I, Stanley (Stan) Bulger, am announcing my candidacy for Simpson County School Board, District 4. I am the son of the late A. L. Bulger and Gwen (Stephens) Dukes and grandson of the late O. L. and Myrtis Stephens. My spouse is Linda Bulger, and we reside near Magee.

I graduated from the Magee school system as did my sons and step-daughter. I grew up working on our family farm and business (Stephens Store). I attended Mississippi State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Then, I served in the U. S. Army on active duty for two (2) years with one (1) year being served in Vietnam as an Officer in H Troop, 17th Armored Calvary where I received one (2) Bronze Stars. Upon my return to Magee from military service, I was employed by General Cable Corporation in Brandon, MS followed by employment with the Weyerhaeuser Corporation in Philadelphia, MS, and Schaumburg, IL before returning to Philadelphia, MS where I owned a group of small businesses. I later returned to the Weyerhaeuser Corporation at their corporate offices in Federal Way, WA where I became Vice President of Human Resources, Diversified Businesses. I have also worked for Paragon Trade Brands in Atlanta and Central Garden & Pet Company ($2B+ annual sales public company) located in Walnut Creek, CA, from which I recently retired as Vice President, Human Resources and Administrative Services. I have served on many Boards of both public and private entities to include Mississippi State University’s Executive Board (School of Business); Alcorn State University Advisory Board; King County (Seattle, WA) United Way; Wight Nurseries ( 2nd largest US horticultural container growing business); GTS Drywall Supply; and currently the Simpson County Development Foundation. I am a member of First Baptist Church, Magee.

I will bring to the School Board position a diverse base of skills and experiences, with emphasis on accountability from my business background. Without a consistently well-performing public educational system, we cannot recruit a more diverse, higher paying, business base into our County. We must do a better job in delivering a consistent, quality education to all students to keep advancing as a community in the future.

I am asking for your vote for Stanley Bulger on November 6th.

This is a paid political announcement.
