The annual Summer Gifted Studies Program at The University of Southern Mississippi, hosted by its Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies, will be held June 24-29 at the Hattiesburg campus. The deadline for application is April 9.

The Summer Gifted Studies Program is a one-week residential program designed for intellectually gifted students in grades 4 through 8, with intelligence quotients of 121 or above on an individually administered test, or the 91st percentile or above at the national level on an achievement test. The program enhances the cognitive abilities of gifted students through planned enrichment/acceleration activities.

This year’s programs embrace the initiatives of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) movement, with each course carefully designed to engage young minds to shape the future of Mississippi, our nation, and the world.

“We invite gifted students to make the beautiful Hattiesburg campus of Southern Miss their home for a week as they explore new ideas, make new friends, and expand their horizons,” said Dr. Heather Houston, director of the Karnes Center.

Summer Gifted Studies Program course offerings include:
*Grades 4-6:
Wonders of the World – Old and New, Food Culture and Commodities, and Science of Drones
