Southern Miss Receives Top Military Friendly Online College Honor

The University of Southern Mississippi has been rated as a 2016 Top Military Friendly Online College – one of only 81 to receive that designation nationally – by Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAET).

In evaluating more than 500 schools, MAET researched online schools across the nation and analyzed them in four areas: military culture, online support, financial aid, and flexibility. Southern Miss is the only college/university in the state to be included in the list of 81.

“On behalf of the University of Southern Mississippi, we are most honored to receive national recognition as a Top Military Friendly Online College for 2016,” said Maj. Gen. Jeff Hammond (U.S Army, ret.), who serves as director of the University’s Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families. “We recognize the unique opportunities that a high quality online education program provides to military communities across the nation.”

This online recognition follows on the heels of three significant designations Southern Miss has received in recent months. In January, Victory Media Inc., named Southern Miss to its listing of the Top 50 colleges and universities in the United States with outstanding diversified services for veterans. And last December, Military Advanced Education & Transition awarded Southern Miss the designation of a Top School in its 2016 Guide to Colleges & Universities, while Victory Media designated Southern Miss a Military Friendly School.

“We are proud of our military connection with our online programs and look forward to continue in doing more to provide a ‘Military Friendly’ and caring, learning environment for current and future Golden Eagles,” said Hammond.
