Southern Miss Names 2016 Kennard Scholars

The 2016 class of Kennard Scholars at The University of Southern Mississippi was recently announced by the USM Dean of Students Office. Named in honor of Clyde Kennard, who attempted to integrate Southern Miss in the 1950s, the Kennard Scholars program is designed for students committed to academic excellence, leadership development and citizenship.

The program gives particular attention to students from underrepresented and diverse communities, and offers a variety of resources to aid students in their ability to pay for college, personal and academic development and pursuit of a degree. Services include supplemental instruction, a mentor program, academic readiness workshops and an Enrichment for Excellence Series to develop the skills necessary to succeed.
