Southern Miss Human Resources Program Earns Important Recognition

The Human Resource Management B.S.B.A. program at The University of Southern Mississippi has achieved an important distinction by renewing alignment of its curriculum with the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.

The alignment is significant because it demonstrates a clear connection between academia and practice. SHRM is considered the preeminent organization for human resource professionals.

The Southern Miss HR program, administered by the University’s College of Business, first received this SHRM recognition in 2011. The recent renewal extends recognition through 2021.

“The alignment renewal signals to our HR graduates that their degree program has prepared them to compete effectively for human resource positions, and make meaningful contributions to organizational effectiveness and the human resource profession, “ said Joe Peyrefitte, Chair of the Department of Management and International Business.

The renewal is evidence of a commitment to continually improve programs in accordance with both academic and professional best practices. SHRM is the largest human resources organization, serving the needs of HR professionals in more than 160 countries worldwide.

Dr. Faye Gilbert, Dean of the College of Business at Southern Miss, notes that the acknowledgement from SHRM reinforces the steps faculty take to ensure degree programs are relevant and benchmarked by best practices.

“Our students receive a quality experience here and, upon completing the degree, find they are well prepared to achieve great things in their careers,” said Gilbert. “I congratulate my colleagues in management on this important accomplishment.”
