South Central to Host “Your Health Explained” Community Health Education Seminar Series
LAUREL, Miss. — August 12, 2026 — South Central Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the launch of “Your Health Explained,” a new community health education seminar series designed to provide valuable health information and resources to area residents. The first seminar in this series will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at South Central Place, located at 2260 MS-15, Laurel, MS 39440.
The name of the first seminar in the series is “Care Beyond the Stay,” which will explain the appropriate medical services intended to help patients recover and build independence after a hospital stay. During this first seminar, attendees will hear from two separate speakers.
SCRMC’s Director of ComfortCare Home Health & Hospice, Dean Nickens, LMSW, will discuss the differences between Home Health and Hospice, specific services provided with each type of care and the stigmas associated with end-of-life care. ComfortCare Nursing Center Administrator, Alex Pippen, LNHA, BSN, MBA, will share how SCRMC’s skilled nursing facility can help patients recover after a medical event or give individuals with a range of medical needs a place to receive long-term, around-the-clock training and therapy.
Attendees will gain a better understanding of the resources available to them and learn which care options may be most appropriate for varying levels of patient needs. The seminar will also include time for questions and group discussion.
These seminars will continue to occur throughout the year, covering other topics, such as:
  • “Making Your Wishes Known: Estate Planning & Advanced Directives”
  • “The Right Care at the Right Time: Palliative Care & Hospice”
  • “Medicare + You: Medicare vs Medicare Advantage”
SCRMC is proud to provide the community with an opportunity to hear directly from experts in their respective fields and gain practical information that can positively affect their health. The seminar is free and open to the public. To register for this event or for questions, call 601-399-0501.
