LAUREL, Miss. — March 6, 2026 — South Central Regional Medical Center is pleased to name April Todd Myers, RN, BSN, as the Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2025.
Myers, a 13‑year employee of SCRMC, has served in multiple nursing roles throughout her tenure and currently works in RN Care Management and Utilization Review for the Emergency Department. Her colleagues describe her as a trusted resource and a tireless advocate for patients.
Myers was nominated for HEART Champion by Rhonda McCardle, who highlighted a recent example of her exceptional efforts to help a member of the community receive the care they needed. After seeing a community Facebook post from out‑of‑state relatives seeking help for a homeless family member in the Laurel area, Myers immediately recognized the situation from months earlier.
She had previously provided the family with resources when long‑term care was not yet an option. As circumstances changed, Myers stepped in once again, coordinating with the family by phone, gathering necessary information and working with multiple internal departments to secure admission requirements for long‑term placement.
“April strives to ensure patients are leveraging every appropriate benefit of their health plan to get the level of care needed,” McCardle said. “April serves as a library of resources and contacts for community programs and charities. She is an adaptable team player that will work with any person or department in need of help.”
When asked what HEART value was most important to her, Myers said, “As a care manager and a nurse, compassionate empathy helps me to truly understand the roadblocks my patients are facing in health care and in life. It motivates me to advocate for my patients and address barriers to obtaining the health care that they need. By helping patients get appropriate care and services they need outside the hospital setting, this decreases the need to return to the Emergency Department for treatments and prevents hospital readmissions.”
The process of choosing who receives the Employee of the Quarter distinction begins with an internal nomination process, which is open to any member of the SCRMC staff who wishes to submit a peer for consideration. Then the winner is chosen through an anonymous numbers-based voting process by a committee of individuals from across the organization.
The four individuals who are chosen as Employees of the Quarter throughout the year will be eligible for Employee of the Year, which will be announced during National Hospital Week in May 2026.
