Laurel, Miss. — — South Central Regional Medical Center is pleased to name Dedra Wallace, as the Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2025.
Dedra Wallace is a lifetime learner and an encouragement to everyone she encounters, especially in the SCRMC Operating Room, where she has worked for many years as a surgical technologist.
“She is a key and vital member of our team,” said B. Michael Weber, MD, an obstetrics and gynecology physician at SCRMC. “She is skilled at what she does, and some of our cases would literally be impossible without her.”
Her nomination for HEART Champion, submitted by her supervisor, SCRMC Surgery Director, Angel Freeman, was full of explanations about how she displays each of SCRMC’s core values.
“Dedra is an awesome example of what a good employee and coworker looks like,” said Freeman. “I can always trust her to do the right thing with our patients while taking care of our physicians. No matter the circumstances, she is willing to go the extra mile.”
Dedra joined the staff at SCRMC’s Comfort Care Nursing Center as a CNA in 2001. She later joined the surgical staff after returning to school to earn her surgical technology certification from East Central Community College.
“I have been around South Central for most of my life,” said Wallace. “There is a family feel here. I come to work every day because of my coworkers, and I love taking care of patients.”
After 24 years of working in the field, Dedra has decided to return to school once again to be a surgical first assistant.
The process of choosing who receives the Employee of the Quarter distinction begins with an internal nomination process, which is open to any member of the SCRMC staff who wishes to submit a peer for consideration. Then the winner is chosen through an anonymous numbers-based voting process by a committee of individuals from across the organization.
The four individuals who will be chosen as Employees of the Quarter throughout the year will be eligible for Employee of the Year, which will be announced during National Hospital Week in May 2026.
