LAUREL, Miss. — The inaugural South Central Health Care Foundation Hope Hustle 5K & Fun Run was held on Saturday in Ellisville.
The event was a success, bringing approximately 100 runners together to help raise funds for the renovation of the South Central Regional Medical Center Maternal Child and Pediatric Unit.
Funds raised will help transform this space into a modern, family-centered space where mothers, newborns and children from across our six-county service area receive care in a nurturing, state-of-the-art environment.
Daniel Sullivan was named the overall winner of the event.
In the Men’s 5K division, top honors went to:
  • 1st place: Juan Flores
  • 2nd place: Elisha Arroyo
  • 3rd place: Brian Wells
In the Women’s 5K division, winners were:
  • 1st place: Mae Knight
  • 2nd place: Katie Herrington
  • 3rd place: Amber Miller
In the Fun Run, top finishers included:
  • 1st place: Annie Gibbes
  • 2nd place: Lizzy Collins
  • 3rd place: Daylee Gibbes

The Foundation is grateful to Jones College for its support and for allowing race participants to run through its beautiful campus. The Foundation also extends gratitude to the following local businesses, who served as sponsors for the event: Regions Bank, Cadence Bank, Chuck May: Shelter Insurance, Harris Dental, American GraphX, Mar-Jac Poultry, Landmark Landscape Services and Wilson’s Commissary.
“This event is not only a great way to promote physical activity within the community, but it also serves as a fun way to help us reach our fundraising goals for the Maternal Child and Pediatric renovation,” Hope Hustle committee chairman and SCRMC employee, Wyth Collins, said. “We are so grateful for all of the sponsors, runners and volunteers who helped make this event a success.”
The Foundation will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the rest of the year. Upcoming events include the annual Holston Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 30 and the South Central Health Care Foundation Clay Shoot on Nov. 7. SCRMC would appreciate the community’s continued participation and support.
For more information about how to support the foundation, please contact the South Central Health Care Foundation at 601-399-5503 or foundation@scrmc.com.
