The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” The prophet of the Old Testament here speaks promises and assurances of God to His chosen people, the Jews. As God’s spokesperson, Isaiah often warned the people to keep away from the worship of idols, false gods, and to put their trust in Him. With the coming of Jesus and His apostles, we gentiles were grafted on and were thereby granted a royal kinship with God. We, likewise, need the same assurances and reminders to beware of the lure of worldliness and false idols. We must keep our eyes firmly planted on Jesus, claim His promises, and believe that He will provide our needs. “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way. While we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” I do love that old hymn and the message it holds for the Christian. Draw close to God, and He’ll draw close to you.
Happy Thursday!
