It was Homecoming and it was all Simpson Academy on Friday night against the Columbia Academy Cougars. Simpson’s fast paced offense proved to be too much.
SCA jumped out to a 1st quarter 29-0 lead. Almost scoring at will.  Simpson’s Carter Cockrell had back to back touchdown runs of 32 and 7 yards. The defense joined in the fun with a mishandled snap on a punt that resulted in a safety against Columbia Academy. Cockrell soon entered the stage again with another 30 yard touchdown run. Then with 8 seconds left in the half, Brentley Berry broke free for a 78 yard touchdown run.
In the second quarter, Braden Duncan intercepted a pass that later resulted in a 5 yard touchdown pass from Berry to Tyler Stanford.  Later in the quarter, with 3:19 left in the half, Colby Womack capped off a drive with a 1 yard TD run. Columbia Academy got the ball back before half but had the attempt spoiled by an interception from Sawyer done. SCA led at halftime 42-0.
In the second half, SCA went scoreless.  However, Columbia Academy scored in the 3rd and 4th quarter on a 9 yard run and a 23 yard pass. The final was 42-14.
Brentley Berry was 2-3 for 16 yards and a touchdown passing while rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown. Carter Cockrell led all rushers with 9 carries for 104 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sawyer Dunn led the Cougars in the receiving category with 1 catch for 11 yards. The defense was led by Kyle Walker with 4 tackles and Kody Scoggins with 3.5 tackles.
Simpson will be on the road this Friday night against defending 4A MAIS State Champions, Riverfield Academy. Game time is 7:00 PM.
