The Simpson varsity boys and girls both played in District Championships last night, February 16. The varsity girls faced the Lamar Raiders, who hosted the tournament, in a battle for first. When all said and done, the varsity girls would go on to lose by 10 to the Raiders. The varsity boys faced the Copiah Colonels which they split during the regular season. The game would see key Cougar players foul out, and a close score all the way to the end. The Cougars would go on to secure victory, with a final score of 61-55. With the girls finishing second and the boys in first, the stage is set for this week’s State Tournament. With both Cougar teams looking for a state title, Coach Crain is also chasing his 1000th win. Below are brackets, released by the Simpson Athletic Twitter page, that show the game times and path for each Cougar team. MageeNews.com will cover the State Tournament and bring you updates as they become available.
