Simpson Academy Lady Cougars hosted Jackson Prep Lady Raiders in the first game of the MAIS Over-All State Championship Tuesday night @ the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex. The game was loud and tough with the teams tied until the top of the 5th inning .
Prep scored in the top of the first inning. The Cougars answered at bat and the inning ended 1-1. The second inning saw a repeat of the first inning, again tied 1-1. Prep came out swinging and put an additional 2 runs on the board. The Cougars answered with two additional runs with the 3rd inning 3-3. Prep and Simpson remained neck in neck with the 4th inning 3-3. Prep came alive in the 5th inning with a homer. Simpson was scoreless in the 5th leaving the game with a score of 4 for Prep and 3 for Simpson. Prep continued their run with the scoring of two additional runs. Simpson was scoreless. The 6th inning ended with Prep 4 and Simpson 3. The bats of Prep came alive to seal the deal on the game with two additional runs. The Lady Cougars were scoreless in the 6th ending the game with Prep 6 and Simpson 3.
The Lady Cougars meet Prep again on Saturday afternoon, October 7th, at 2 o’clock at Jackson Prep’s field. If Simpson wins, another game will be played at 4 o’clock.
The Lady Cougars have had a tremendous year winning the State Championship in their division. The Over-All state crown will be awarded Saturday…let’s hope it is the Cougars wearing the crown!
