Simpson Cross Country Wins Final Meet Before State

Both the boys and girls Simpson Cross Country teams showed out at the final regular season meet before the MSAIS State Championship Meet, which will be held Monday, October 25 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

The JV boys team won the JV race, led by Denver Carter, who was the overall winner; Parker Payne, who placed 6th; Braden Overby, who finished 5th; and Jayden Smith, who was 3rd overall.

The Simpson Cross Country Girls’ Team continued its winning streak, finishing the meet with a perfect score of 15.

Pack running was once again key to the Cougars’ success, with the team led by the following runners: Lilly Overby, who placed 1st; Kinsley Welch, 2nd; Layla Warren, 3rd; Caroline McAlpin, 4th; Emma Overstreet, 5th; Carson Carter, 7th; and Cameron Bishop, 8th.

Sophie Grubbs led the Cougars in the JV race, finishing 10th overall.

Jayda Smith was not far behind in 12th.

The Fast & Furious 2-Miler, hosted by Simpson Academy and Park Place Christian Academy, was the last home meet for Senior Cameron Bishop, who had her best meet of the season so far.

The Simpson Cross Country Team will finish its season Monday, October 25 at the state meet in Clinton.
