Simpson Cross Country Shines at Lakeshore in Hattiesburg

The Simpson Academy Girls Cross Country Team finished first in the Forerunners Lakeshore Meet in Hattiesburg on Monday, October 2, 2023. The team was led by Sophomore Lily Overby who won the varsity 5K race with a time of 19:36.08.

Lily Overby, a sophomore at Simpson Academy, placed first in the Hattiesburg Forerunners Lakeshore Cross Country Meet.

Overby was followed closely by teammate Layla Warren, who is also a sophomore and finished second with a time of 19:56.07.

Sophomore Layla Warren finished second at the Hattiesburg Forerunners Lakeshore Cross Country Meet.

Finishing third in the race was Simpson student Charlee Franks, who ran a 21:49.14.

Charlee Franks, a junior at Simpson Academy, finished 3rd at the Hattiesburg Forerunners Lakeshore Cross Country Meet.

Senior Kinsley Welch made a strong showing by finishing sixth with a time of 23:49.95, followed closely by 6th grader Izzy Craft, who finished eight with a time of 24:04.83.

The Simpson Academy boys team also did well, finishing second in the meet. The team was led by Sophomore Denver Carter, who finished third with a time of 18:22.60.

Sophomore Denver Carter placed 3rd in the Hattiesburg Forerunner Lakeshore Cross Country Meet.

Jayden Smith, who is also a sophomore, was not far behind, finishing 8th with a time of 19:01.25.

All top ten finishers received t-shirts. The following Simpson Academy runners placed in the top ten: Jayden Smith, Layla Warren, Lily Overby, Izzy Craft, Kinsley Welch, Charlee Franks, and Denver Carter.
