Simpson Cross Country Running Strong Headed Toward State Meet

The Simspon Academy Cross Country Team finished its regular season strong at the Fast & Furious 2-Mile Meet on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Neely Farms in Magee.

Both Varsity Girls and Boys took first place in the meet, and individual Simpson runners won three of the four races.

Izzy Craft leading the JV Girls’ Race
Sixth grader Izzy Craft won JV girls’ race with a personal best of 12:58 in the two-mile.
Brason Fox took first place in the JV boys’ race with a personal record of 11:37, and Lilly Overby set a personal and course record, winning the varsity girls’ race with a time of 11:19.

Other top 10 finishers finishers for Simpson were:
  • Layla Warren – 2nd in Varsity Girls’ Race with a time of 11:49 (PR)
  • Charlee Franks – 4th in Varsity Girls’ Race with a time of 12:35 (PR)
  • Senior Kinsley Welch – 5th in Varsity Girls’ Race with a time of 12:55
  • Caroline McAlpin – 9th in Varsity Girls’ Race with a time of 13:51
  • Jayden Smith – 3rd in Varsity Boys’ Race with a time of 11:16 (PR)
  • Denver Carter – 6th in Varsity Boys’ Race with a time of 11:43
  • Braden Overby – 9th in Varsity Boys’ Race with a time of 11:54
  • John Thomas White – 8th in JV Boys’ Race with a time of 12:59 (PR)

The meet was Simpson’s final meet before the state championship meet, which will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton. It was also the last home meet for the team’s only senior, Kinsley Welch.
