Simpson County Technical Center’s Program Feature of the Month – Metal Fabrication
Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is proud to offer a Metal Fabrication program that prepares students for a wide range of careers in the metal forming and fabricating industry. A two-part course, students enrolled in the Metal Fabrication program learn about advanced machining techniques and about various welding processes (plasma arc cutting, gas metal arc welding, flux core welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding).
In addition to earning two credits/years toward graduation, students in the program also earn a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification, which means the holder is highly trained, knowledgeable and qualified to do the job anywhere in the country.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 1.425 million workers are employed in metal fabrication and are able to work as either cutting, punching and press machine setters and operators; first-line supervisors; managers; machinists; team assemblers; or as welders, cutters and brazers.
