Simpson County Technical Center’s Program Feature of the Month – Health Sciences

Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is proud to offer its students a firsthand look into the field of health care while enrolling in its health sciences program. The health sciences program at SCTC exposes interested students to a wide range of careers to include doctor, public health worker, educator, patient care advocate, pharmacy sales representative, among others.

A two-part course, the health sciences program introduces students to the theory and practical applications of tasks related to employment in health science. Students learn about topics such as safety in the workplace, infection control, health care systems and the vital organs of the human body.

Students also learn the theory and applied tasks related to careers within health care by covering topics such as growth and development, health informatics, information technology, and therapeutic and rehabilitative services.

Throughout the year, students are given many opportunities to participate in various classroom and outreach activities and to participate in state, regional and national competitions thanks to their membership in the student-centered organization Future Health Professionals (HOSA).
