LAUREL, Miss. — April 15, 2026 — Today, South Central Regional Medical Center hosted a ribbon cutting event for Jefferson Street Café, its new quick-service restaurant, located on the first floor of the hospital.
The event included brief remarks by South Central President and CEO, Gregg Gibbes, and Food Services Director, Johnny McDonald, followed by an official ribbon cutting facilitated by the Jones County Chamber of Commerce.
“Hospital food does not typically have a reputation for being delicious, but we are proud to offer options that truly surprise our guests,” said Gibbes. “We want patients, employees and visitors to have multiple convenient and genuinely enjoyable dining options.”
The 1,200‑square‑foot space previously housed a third‑party restaurant. In mid‑2025, SCRMC began transforming it into a fully staffed, standalone dining venue operated by the hospital’s Food Services team. The redesigned café now offers seating for up to 30 guests, creating a comfortable, convenient dining experience within the hospital.
“The restaurant features a wide variety of food options, including fresh salads with unique twists, classic soups and other handhelds such as sandwiches, wraps and burgers,” Johnny McDonald said. “The most exciting part of the menu is its rotating specials. We hope to consistently bring exciting new options to the menu, delighting our guests with unexpected but delicious food items.”
The restaurant is now open to the public, serving lunch and dinner daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can order ahead using ChowNow’s website or app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
