Simpson County Technical Center Students Attend FBLA State Leadership Conference

Members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) recently joined their peers from across the state for an annual leadership conference, hosted by the FBLA’s regional chapter.

As members of the largest career student business organization in the world, 15 students from SCTC attended the FBLA’s Mississippi Fall Leadership conference held in Raymond. During the conference, students engaged in various leadership activities and interacted with other FBLA students and officers.

Patrice Williams, sponsor for the FBLA group at SCTC, said she was excited that her students were able to attend the conference in person, so they could participate in all the programming available at the conference.

“The FBLA Fall Leadership Conference allows students to network with state-level officers and other FBLA chapters around the state,” said Williams. “The conference allows them to showcase their leadership skills, as well as gleam other skills from other students.”

Across the southern region, FBLA serves more than 200,000 students and works to prepare students for success as leaders in business, government and communities.

Attending her first conference, Mendenhall High School junior Peyton White said she enjoyed having the opportunity to meet new people and gain valuable knowledge, such as information about bullying and cyberbullying prevention.

When asked how she thought the conference benefited her, White said:

“This conference benefits me as a student because it helps develop my leadership skills, be more social, develop friendships, and participate in different activities to compete. It prepares me for careers in business in the future and gives me more knowledge and experience that I can’t learn in the classroom that will prepare me for the real world and workforce.”

FBLA is a nationwide student business organization that inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. Their mission is to bring business and education together through innovative leadership and career development programs.
