Simpson County Sheriff Department
Thursday, September 7, 2023. Simpson County deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence on Simpson Hwy 545 between Hwy 28 and Hwy 149 in Magee. Once deputies made contact, the suspect then ran on foot to Goodwater Cemetery. During a physical altercation with the suspect. He managed to take a deputy’s patrol vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect struck at least two vehicles. The pursuit ended near U.S. Hwy 49 and Mary Grove Church Road in Magee. The suspect then emerged from the stolen patrol vehicle with a deputy’s AR-15 rifle. He was subsequently shot by a deputy and later succumbed to his wounds. The sheriff’s department is not releasing the names of the parties involved at this time. This investigation, like any officer involved shooting will be handled by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. No deputies were injured during this incident.
