Simpson County School District Applies for Technology
The Simpson County School District is excited to announce that we will be able to purchase chromebooks for all K-12 students in the district and chromebooks for all of our teachers using funds from the Equity in Digital Learning Act (EDLA/S.B. 3044). The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) released the Equity in Digital Learning Act (EDLA) application on Thursday, August 10th to all school districts in the state. Applications are due to the Mississippi Department of Education on September 1st.
Once the application has been approved by the MDE, Simpson County School District will place an order to purchase the Chromebooks. Per MDE and S.B. 3044, the Chromebooks must be ordered by districts no later than September 11, 2020. The Simpson County School District is working diligently to complete the application and will submit the application for approval by the Simpson County School Board approval on Monday, August 24, 2020 in a special called board meeting.
Once the School Board has approved the application, the district will submit the application to MDE for their approval. Our hopes are to have the chromebooks in hands of our students and teachers as quickly as possible, but we do understand that everyone in the State of Mississippi will be requesting the same, if not similar, devices for their students.
Please be patient with us while we wait for this technology to be delivered to our district. We appreciate our parents and community for the encouragement that we have received during these difficult times that we are facing. We are diligently working to provide the very best instruction for our virtual and hybrid students in Simpson County! Hopefully we will be able to provide every student with a device very soon!
