On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Mississippi State Board of Education approved new accountability grades for all state public schools and districts for the first time since 2019, due to a two-year pause in state assessments as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

SCSD is pleased to acknowledge improvement in the district’s overall accountability score, with many highlights throughout the district. According to the 2021-22 data, SCSD achieved the following highpoints:

  • The district’s overall Accountability Rating approved, now reaching 573 points, only 26 points from achieving Level B status.
  •  Mendenhall Elementary earned the highest grade in its school history with an A.
  •  Mendenhall High achieved 88 points in growth, going from a Level D status (583) to a Level B status (671). The school also saw its Algebra I proficiency increase significantly by 61.1 percent, with a growth of 100 percent; U.S. History proficiency increase to 76.5 percent; and College and Career Readiness increase to 34 percent – the highest it has ever reached.
  • Simpson Central maintained a Level B status, in addition to earning the highest proficiency rate in the district for eighth-grade math, with 75 percent proficiency; and fifth-grade science earning 73 percent proficient and advanced.
  • Magee Elementary School was able to achieve a Level C status, despite losing the most instructional days in the district related to COVID-19.
  • Magee High School grew by 71 points from a Level F status to a Level D status, being only 5 points from a C.

The 2021-22 Accountability Performance Results for Simpson County School District (SCSD) are as follows:

  • Overall District – C
  •  Mendenhall Elementary School – A
  •  Mendenhall High School – B
  • Simpson Central School – B
  • Magee Elementary – C
  • Magee High School  –  D
  • Magee Middle School – F
  • Mendenhall Junior High – F
SCSD is proud of the gains shown by its schools in its ongoing efforts to move the district forward. The district is especially proud of our schools that were rated a C or higher by the Mississippi Department of Education Accountability Model.

“Despite what some of our scores may look like, SCSD is still a successful school district.  The district is making progress toward becoming a ‘B’ school district,” said Superintendent Toriano Holloway. “We have analyzed the data and identified areas for improvement. We are proud of our staff and students for their hard work.”
