Simpson County School Board met on Thursday February 11, 2016 @ 6:00 pm. Meeting was called to order by President, Doris Perkins, and Stacey Herrin led in prayer.

Agenda was approved. The Board recognized Crystal Brewer for service.

Minutes were approved.

Patrick Sanders address the board about use of Magee High School Football Field for an Easter Program. Permission was voted and granted

Dr. Tom Duncan, Data and Research, gave updates on testing.

Jeannie Pigg, Special Services, presented the board with the request for all students to take an ACT Prep class, now that all juniors are required to take the ACT. This would be a half credit class and can be taken any time before junior year. If a student has not taken the test by their junior year it will be required during their first semester of their Junior year before taking required ACT.

Consent Agenda –

  1. Request from Mendenhall High School to destroy cumulative records for years prior to 2010. Permanent record for each student will be kept in the vault at the school.
  2. Request from Mendenhall Elementary to accept a treadmill donated to Physical and Occupational department at school.
  3. School bus turnaround for Franklin Coleman at 305 Boggan Ridge Road, Mendenhall.

Travel Agenda –

  1. Tressie James requests permission to travel with Mendenhall Junior High Students at State Junior Beat Convention, March 20-22, 2016 in Biloxi, MS. Funded by MJH Beta Club.
  2. Kelly Nelson, Amy Sheppard, and Tyler Scoggins requests permission to travel with Magee High Students to State Beta Convention, February 14-17, 2016 in Biloxi, MS. Funded by Parents
  3. Martha Cole requests permission to travel with Magee Middle students to McWane Science Center, March 18, 2016 in Birmingham, AL. Funded by Students.
  4. Susie Sorey requests permission to travel with Mendenhall High Students February 18-19, 2016 to State DECA Conference in Jackson, MS. DECA/Student funded.
  5. Gary Horan requests permission to travel to Gaffney, SC and High Point, NC for School Bus Productions Tour, February 17-19, 2016. All expenses paid by Empire Truck Sales.
  6. Mark Hudson requests permission to travel with Mendenhall High Band Students to Ole Miss. February 18-19, 2016. Funded by Band Parents.
  7. Jada Deal requests permission to travel with Magee Students to McWane Science Center, April 22, 2016 in Birmingham, AL.
  8. Shirley Gowen and Sarah Jordan requests permission to attend the National Conference for Math, April 13-16, 2016 in San Francisco, CA.
  9. Antoinette Woodall requests permission to attend the 2016 ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, April 1-4, 2016 in Atlanta, GA. District Funds.
