During Thursday, June 8, 2017, regular schedule board meeting, Simpson County School Board voted to donate the old Pinola School property to the Pinola Historical Society for the betterment of the community.
Human Resources has been busy filling several vacancies in the district.
Positions that were approved for hire are as follows:
Amy Walker, Math teacher at Mendenhall Junior High, Amanda Sumrall and James Sumrall as Band directors for Magee High School, Marcie Bartran as a Spanish Teacher at Mendenhall High School, Megan Blair as Lead teacher at Simpson Central, Steven Hancock as A Social Studies Teacher at Magee Middle, Kenneth Matthews as a Math teacher at Magee Middle, Ishmael Lockhart as a Social Studies Teacher at Mendenhall High School, Karen Byrant as an English Teacher at the Achievement Center, Marcus Lomas as a Math Teacher at Magee High School, and Jamus Wilson as a Social Studies teacher at Mendenhall high School.
Reassignments: Eric Thurman, Social Studies teacher from Mendenhall Jr. High to Magee High School as a History Teacher, and Katina Catchings, Data clerk from Magee Elementary to Magee High School.
The following resignations were approved: Sharonda Jones, Simpson Central, Benjamin Johnson, Mendenhall High School, , Mary Paul, Nurse at Magee Elementary, Ashlie Fox Magee Elementary, and retirement of Shelia White Magee Elementary. The following were terminated for not signing contracts: Audarshia Flagg Mendenhall Jr. High, and Nathan Mercer, Magee Middle.
The following travel was approved: Misty Hannan and Amanda Tindell to travel to MS State University with Mendenhall High Cheerleaders for Cheer Camp, June 15-18, 2017.
Request from Misty Hanna and Debbie Davis to attend the 2017 Summer MASS Conference, July 12-13, 2017 in Biloxi, MS.
Jeffery Walker and the Simpson Central Archery team to compete at the NASP World Competition in Orlando, FL, July 21-24, 2017 paid through Archery Funds, donations and Parents.
Misty Hanna permission to attend the Central Access User’s Conference, October 18-20, 2017 in Biloxi, MS.
Superintendent Greg Paces reported the Magee Elementary should be complete and keys turned over in July. Paes also advised the Band Hall and Filed House in Mendenhall are on tract to compilation.
With no further business, meeting was recessed until a Special Called meeting on June 29th.
