During Simpson County School Board meeting, Thursday, March 8, 2018 Drew Lane District Teacher of the year was recognized.

Mr. Sanders Principal from Mendenhall High School was recognized as District Teach of the Year and was acknowledged from bring his school from a D rating to a B. 

Dr. Woodall from Simpson Central was not present but acknowledge for their success at Simpson Central.

Tracey Runnels came before the board presenting a check for $1500.00 to be used in the archery department. Mr. Runnels stated he wanted to give back to his community and the archery was a positive events the kids participated in an wanted to give something to help them continue their success.

Parents address the board with concerns about bullying within the schools. They wanted to see changes made to the policy that was enforce. The new policies and handbooks will be approved in the month of June.  The county office asked all concerns and changes they would like to see implemented to be sent to the office for consideration.

A group of juniors from Mendenhall High School came before the board to express their appreciation of Mr. Sanders and his work and the safe environment he provides for his students. The students present were left to fight Hailey Herrin and Kennedy Hanna. Back – Grant Mlller, Christian Allen, Rashawn Barnes, Mr. Robert Sanders, Montrel Walker and Brandon Walker.

Under Human Resources the Resignation of Christopher Monk, Teacher at Magee High School, Kirby Craft, Principal at Mendenhall Jr. High, Calvin Williams, Teacher at Magee High School, Claudia Marchant, Cafeteria Worker at Simpson Central, Israel Drummond, Bus Driver at Mendenhall High and Rhonda Broussard, Food services Cashier at Magee Elementary were all approved.

The retirement of Traci Brown, Teacher at Mendenhall Elementary and Marsha Winningham, Librarian at Mendenhall high School were approved.

Reassignments of Magdalene Paige to the vocational Center from Magee High and Detra Magee to Magee Elementary, Eric Thurman to Magee Middle and Steven Hancock to Magee High were all approved.

2018-2019 Administrator Recommendations are as follows:  Dabbie Davis Deputy Superintendent/Cirriculum, Misty Hanna – Associate Superintendent Federal Programs, Jeanie Pigg – Associate Superintendent Special Services, Rhonda Berry – Principal Mendenhall Elementary, Robert Sanders – Principal Mendenhall High School, Antionette Woodall – Principal Simpson Central, Paul Lawrence – Principal Magee Elementary, Terrell Luckey – Principal Magee Middle School, Tom Duncan – Principal Magee High School, George Huffman – Principal Vocational Center, Roma Morris – Principal Achievement Center, Duane Fewell- Director of Finance.

Approval was given to hire Teddy Dyess – Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Magee High School, and employ Karen Orman – Long Term Substitute at Simpson Central, Joe Ann Floyd as the Special Population Coordinator at Vocational Center and Melissa Harrison as a Polymer Science Teacher at Vocational Center.

Consent Agenda – a request from Mendenhall Elementary School to accept a $500 donation form Lipsomb Oil Company was approved.

A bus turn around request for Dawn Smith and Charity Johnson was granted.

HOSA students and sponsors, Brenda White Carol Drane, request permission to attend HOSA competition, March 21-23, 2018 in Jackson, MS. Permission was granted.

Simpson Central band and director, Charles Price request permission to travel to Tuscaloosa, AL for All American Cities Honor band competition, April 6-7, 2018.  Permission was approved.

Crystal Brewer requests permission to attend American School Counselor Conference, July 14-17, 2018, in Los Angeles, CA. Permission to attend was approved.

Elizabeth Christian requests permission to attend Teacher Career Fair at MS State University, April 2-3, 2018. Paid for with federal funds. Permission was granted.

Dr. Antionette Woodall requests permission to attend the 2018 ASCD Conference, June 28-2018 in Dallas, TX. Trip paid for with federal funds. Approval was granted by board.

Simpson Central Beta students and chaperones request permission to attend State Beta Convention, March 28-30, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. This is student funded. Approval was given by board.

Fran Bridges requests permission to attend Southern Regional Leadership Conference, July 22-24, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. Paid for with district funds. Permission was granted.

No further business meeting was adjourned to go into executive session to discuss student discipline and discuss personnel issues.
