JCJC inducts 139 students into PTK international honor society

ELLISVILLE – One-hundred-and-thirty-nine Jones County Junior College students were recently inducted into the international honor society for two-year colleges, Phi Theta Kappa. These students were enrolled in 15 credit hours of classes each semester, have maintained a 3.5 GPA, and will have to continue to meet academic standards to remain a member in good standing. Being a member of PTK also provides scholarship opportunities for senior college and opportunities for campus and community service.

Before being inducted in the prestigious organization, keynote speaker and Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jason Dedwylder praised family and friends for supporting the academic endeavors of these students which allow them endless opportunities. He also shared three guiding principles for success: know yourself, know your talents and know your faith.

“Someday, people will summarize our lives into a single sentence. What will they say about you?” Dedwylder asked the PTK initiates, referencing to John Maxwell’s book, “Law of Legacy.” He continued, referencing the Bible verse, II Timothy, Chapter 4, verse 7, and the writings of the Apostle Paul.

“Honorees, each of you have fought long and hard to be at this point in your educational path. You have finished your work and you have without a doubt overcome many obstacles, and you have kept the faith. As we leave, I encourage each of you to continue to work hard, finish what you start, and keep the faith!”

Ashton Roberts and Jessica Ingram of Mt. Olive, Hannah Bynum of Mendenhall, Wesley McCool and Cynthia Lawrence of Magee,  are 5 of the 139 JCJC students who were recently inducted into the Rho Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international Honor Society at JCJC.
