The Simpson County Economic Development District (SCEDD) has sold two “surplus” parcels in Magee.
On November 29, 2017, the closing was held for the sale of two parcels of property in Magee to Carroll Berry. The parcels, one consisting of 11.12 acres and the other of 4.25 acres, were once part of the Industrial Park in Magee.
In accordance with state statue, these parcels had been declared surplus for industrial development. In August, 2017, the Trustees of the District unanimously passed a resolution authorizing advertisement for sale of the property by written sealed bids.
The proceeds from the sale have gone into the funds of the Economic Development District. The SCEDD is made up of eleven Trustees ; two trustees are appointed from. Each of the five County Districts by that Supervisor and there is one at-large Trustee. The SCEDD is responsible for the management and maintenance of the industrial property owned by the county.

This would have been the perfect place for a Simpson County Multipurpose Pavilion similar to the one Rankin County has.
Sidney, Someone told me the other day that Simpson County has a population of 27,000 compared to Rankin County’s 145,000, plus the average income in Simpson County is about $13,000 compared to $46,000 in Rankin County. Rankin County sure has it going on, but Simpson County is just not to that level at this time, I don’t think.
PatsyTom, this is a good argument but Yalobusha County has one and as of the 2010 census they had 12,678 residents. I feel sure it’s lower now. I have no idea about the average income but I’m sure it’s not close to that of Simpson County. There is not even a motel in the county.
