The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Monday, June 6, 2022 for their regular scheduled meeting. Concerned citizen Katheryn Dillmore appeared before the board seeking status of a dog ordinance for the county. Attorney Danny Welch advised the board was studying several different ordinances from other counties and composing one of their own to be presented and voted on. The research will hopefully be completed in the coming meetings and presented to the board.
The board acknowledged the need for a special election in November to replace the position of Chancery Clerk due to the retirement of Tommy Joe Harvey.
The board approved proof of publication for the resolution of the Board of Supervisors of Simpson County, MS adopting, authorizing, and approving proposed Simpson County Redistricting Plan for Supervisors’ district, voting precincts and Justice Court districts and setting forth the boundaries of the five (5) Supervisors’ Districts, twenty-three voting precincts and two (2) Justice Court Districts.
Solid Waste announced a change in garbage collection effective June 6, 2022. Garbage formerly picked on Monday for St. John Road, Gus Phillips Road, Franklin Road, Gardner Ray Road and Cox Road will now be collected on Tuesdays.
A utility agreement for Smith’s Crossing Water was approved along Dry Creek Road, pending Buddy Wolverton’s signature.
Jamie Brewer, Tax Assessor, presented the changes to real and personal property role. The 2022 May surrender tag list was presented for approval.
Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following report for approval:
- Approval of jail May Summit invoices in the amount of $23,760.28
- William Covington as a new hire jail medical part-time certified RN
- Olivia Gilmore moving to full-time non-certified dispatch
- Permission to apply for AKC Reunite/USPCA Grant and pay membership fee of $50.00
Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP Projects as of February 28, 2022.
- LSBP-64(23)– (Bridge Replacement) Sofa Road -Have requested a final inspection.
- SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton. 15% completions with 10% elapsed time. Contractor is clearing and grubbing to facilitate utility.
- LSBP-64(24)– Bridge Replacement Shorter Road – Working on P.S. & E. Assembly. Have right of way. Awaiting utility agreements.
- SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – Office review plans were mailed to State Aid on September 27, 2021. Awaiting wetland permit cost from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
- LSBP-64(25) – Bridge Replacement Peacock Road – Completing field work.
- 2022 Simpson County Resurfacing Project – Roads 1A- 50 – 38% completed with 25% elapsed time. Contractor conducting base repair, edge and leveling operation.
Meeting entered executive session to discuss an industrial prospect.
