Simpson County Supervisors met for their regular scheduled meeting August 16, 2021. Special guest Chaulcer Funchess lead in opening prayer.

Road Manager Ben Warren advised the rock and tor project was at 3/4 completion. Warren asked the citizens to continue to be patient due to weather and running behind on some projects. Board members entered into a discussion concerning the size of culverts. The culverts must meet specks and residents need to check with county before purchasing culverts to be installed and make sure they meet requirements.

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following personnel report for hire. Willie McDonald Full-time jail, Joseph Hunter new hire, part-time jail, and Brandi Hayman as a new hire for jail medical.

The board approved payment to Summitt Food Services for the month of July in the amount of $20,910.61.

The following items were granted for disposal.

  • Dispatch call cards for services 2005, 2006, and 2007
  • NCIC Print Out from 20005-2013
  • Dispatch log books 2000-2009
  • Training material up to 2015

The board approved the renewal of LeadsOnline Tracking System in the amount of $1718.00.

Garrett Gray was granted permission to attend the Harrison County Law Enforcement Training Academy in Biloxi on August 20, 2021 – November 2, 2021 at a cost of $3,600.00.

John Kilpatrick, EMC, advised the board the E911 office has received 1344 calls this year in  comparison to last years total of 1173. Eleven house fire were reported the previous month with 3 calls returning to same location. The county transferred 393 calls to ASAP. Average response time is 15:00 minutes. Three calls recevied were over 40 minutes wait time. An investigation as to the time delay is being conducted.

 

The board approved to hire Tracey Brown Seghini as Justice Court Asst Public Defender at a cost of $1,500 per month.

The roof is leaking at Justice Court Building. After investigation an error in installation should be the source fo the issue. The board approved to contact original roofer and allow them the opportunity to correct the problem.

Election Systems and Software maintenance service contract for the 56 election ExpressPoll tablets were approved.

The following travel request were approved:

  • Supervisors to attend the MS Association of Supervisors Fall conference in Oxford, MS. October 19-21, 2021.
  • Rhuel Dickinson to attend the MS DPS Crime Stoppers Annual Conference in Biloxi, MS October 19-22, 2021.
  • Deputy Garrett Gray to attend the Harrison County Law Enforcement Training Academy beginning August 22, 2021 plus one night room.
  • Mitchell Chatman to attend the MAS-MC 2021 Annual Fall Workshop in Jackson, MS on September 27-28, 2021.

Donnie Caughman met before the board to give an update on the Economic Development Foundation. Caugham stated land with rail was still property that was needed. Caughman advised the census report came out and Mississippi was down in numbers. Simpson County saw a decrease in numbers with the City of Magee taking the largest hit in the county. Caughman advised the school board was working hard to improve issues on their end.

Future Board Meeting:

  • Tuesday, August 17, 2021 – Recessed budget work session
  • Tuesday, September 7, 2021 Regular Meeting
  • Wednesday, September 15, 2021 – Recessed Meeting, Budget Hearing and Tax Levy Hearing.
  • Thursday, September 30, 2021 – Recessed Meeting for Fiscal year End.

Holidays: 

  • Labor Day – September 6, 2021
