The bi-monthly meeting for the Simpson County Board of Supervisors was called to order by Board President Mitchell Chatman followed by prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The July 2024 minutes were approved. Tax collector reported only one constituent brought a complaint concerning the 2024 taxpayer rolls. The concern was discussed in a closed executive session following the regular meeting.
Chancery Clerk Tim Gray gave the following report:
Pattie Wallace was introduced as the new director of the Simpson County Department of Human Services.
Road Manager Ben Warren explained a county backhoe was stolen on Highway 28 west at James Boykin Barnett Road. The Sheriff’s Department is handling the complaint. The piece of equipment is insured. According to Warren,” appears to be an out of state operation.” In the future, all equipment will have trackers attached.

County Engineer Greg Bonds reported that Dry Creek Road and Peacock Road are in line for repair. Pre-work on the rubbish pit continues. Sealed bids for Project No. ERBR-64(05) New Hope Rad will be received until 9:30 AM on August 9, 2024. Bid openings will be held at that time.
Reverse auction for the purchase of two garbage trucks for Solid Waste will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Written sealed bids without equipment pricing will be due Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

County Administrator Eric Bowen gave the following report:
Charlie Westmorland, Jeremy Bolton, and Chris Wallace will attend MASIT Risk Management Conference to be held August 20-21 in Pearl.
Board Attorney Danny Welch is continuing work on a Keep Simpson County Beautiful request made by Evelyn Copeland to fund the director position for the county.
Mr. Willie Magee appeared before the board with his ongoing request for the Board to recognize and follow the handbook employment information. Mr. Magee has terminated his employment with the county.
The next Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024.
