Simpson County Board of Supervisors Meeting
November 3, 2025

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors meeting was called to order by Board President Danny Craft. County Administrator Charlie Welch led the group in prayer, followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chancery Clerk Tim Gray presented the following items.  All 4 items were approved.

County Road Manager’s Report

Jeremy Bolton, County Road Manager, presented the following report to the board:

  • Motion was made to accept the October Road Report.
  • New Hire: Drew Jordan, CDL driver, at a pay rate of $15.95 per hour.
  • Promotions and Pay Adjustments:
    • Rayford Phillips – increased to $16.45 per hour.
    • Justin Curtis – increased to $14.95 per hour.
  • Motion was made to accept the lowest and best bid for the repair of two box culverts on Old River Road. The bid was awarded to Grant Blakeney LLC.
  • Motion was made to purchase one Kubota M65-111 tractor equipped with a 50″ Terrain King Cutter on a 22-foot boom at the state contract price of $181,645.85.

 

Under Sheriff Greg Reynolds gave the following report in the absence of Sheriff Paul Mullins

 

 

Tax Assessor’s Report

Tax Assessor Jamie Brewer presented the following updates to the board:

  • October 2025 Credit Report
  • Surrender Tag List for October 2025
  • Real and Personal Roll Changes

A discussion was held regarding equalizing ad valorem tax payments among all cities in Simpson County. Currently, Magee and Mendenhall pay a lesser amount. The proposal suggested that all cities pay the same rate of 3%.

Mrs. Brewer also shared a request from the Mendenhall Women’s Club to host Cookies with Santa on December 6th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Simpson County Courthouse. She stated she would handle opening and closing the building, and the Sheriff’s Department will assist with security.
The cost of attendance is $20 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the Mendenhall Women’s Club.

John Kilpatrick (Emergency Management) requested permission to attend the FEMA convention on the coast.  The request was approved.  Cost is $275.00.
