Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Monday, December 2, 2019 for their regular scheduled meeting.

First order of business was addressing concern from citizen Dean Blackwell regarding an access road for the possibility of a Solar farm. The board entertained the request and will look further into if any help can or will be given by the county.

Roads Manager Ben Warren presented a speed limit change on the recommendation of County Engineer Buddy Wolverton. The change will apply to 25 MPH on Woolverton Drive.

County Engineer Buddy Woolverton updated the board on all State-Aid and Federal Aid , LSBP & ERBR Projects as of November 30, 2019.

  • STP-0392(6)B – Mt. Zion to Shivers Road (Resurfacing)
    • P.S & E . Assembly was mailed to State Aid on June 20, 207. Awaiting funding.
  • ERBR-STP/BR-0064(23)B – Heed-Neely toad (Bridge) 
    • 90% completed
    • 80% Elapsed time
    • Contractor completed bridge and approaches. Installing guardrails and has grassed the site.
  • LSBP-64(22) – Jake Barnes Road (Bridge)
    • 25 % Complete
    • 40% Elapsed time
    • Contractor cleared and grubbed project site, removed existing bridge, and driven piles in bents #1, #2, and #4. Utilities have been relocated
    • Awaiting contractor’s concrete crew to start on bridge caps.
  • ERBR-64(02) Rockport – New Hebron Road (Bridge Rehabilitation Project)
    • 80% complete
    • 70% Elapsed time
    • Contractor has driven piling for all bents, and set all but one bridge span.

Charles Baldwin, County Tax Collector presented the board with his letter of retirement effective December 31, 2019.

Sheriff Greg Reynolds presentee the board with the following HR report. All were approved.

  • Felicia Hamilton E911 Dispatch full time certified dispatcher plus TAC officer decreasing to full time certified dispatcher
  • Angie Walker E911 Dispatcher full time certified supervisor increasing to full time certified supervisor plus TAC Officer
  • Angie Fortenberry E911 Dispatch full time certified dispatcher plus assistant TAC Officer  moving to full time certified dispatcher
  • Cyrstal Scarborough E911 certified dispatcher moving to full time certified dispatcher plus assistant TAC officer
  • Donna Smith Sheriff Department moving to sheriff part time administrative assistant due to end of DUI grant.

All county elected officials swearing in ceremony will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Courtroom in the Simpson County Historic Courthouse. A reception will be held immediately following ceremony.
