Simpson Academy boys basketball team took it to the top defeating Starkville Academy 65-39.

All State Tournament Team:  Dawsan Drennan, Change Funchess, Gage Smith, and Sawyer Dunn.

On Wednesday night in the first round of the state tournament, Simpson faced off with Copiah Academy.  The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the 1st quarter with a score of 16-10. They expanded the lead and went into halftime leading 37-20. The second half was more of the same. The cougars won with a score of 72-54. The Cougars were led by Senior, Dawson Drennan, with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.
On Friday night, the Simpson Cougars faced Bayou Academy or the second time in 2 weeks. It was a back and forth game. It was all tied up at 12 after the first quarter.  The Cougars extended the leans in the second to go in at halftime with a score of 35-22.  The Cougars were able to hold on in the second half to finish the game with a score of 65-57. The Cougars were led by Junior, Sawyer Dunn, with a game high 38 points.
On Saturday, Simpson faced Starkville Academy who recently beat Simpson in the North State Championship by 4 points last week.  The Cougars jumped out to an early lead but Starkville quickly cut the lead to  5 points with a halftime score of 23-18. Quickly in the second half the lead was cut  to 23-21. The second half was all SCA. The final score was 65-39. The Cougars were an incredible 20-24 from the free throw line. The Cougars were led by Sawyer Dunn with 21 points and 4 Assists.
The Cougars will now face Porter’s Chapel on Wednesday night at home in the first round of the Overall State Tournament.
